Why the Early Action Deadline is Important

The Early Action Deadline for UC fall 2022 applications is December 1st, 2021. For those of you that don’t know, an Early Action Deadline is a date to have your application submitted by so that you are eligible to get an admission decision earlier than normal. It is different from an Early Decision Deadline, in that it is non-binding. UC does not offer an option to choose ‘Early Decision’ but you might hear those terms from other universities in the US.

There are many benefits to submitting an Early Action Application that I will discuss.

Firstly, submitting an Early Action Application shows a college that you are very interested in attending their school. This is very attractive to an admissions counselor.

Secondly, the non-binding nature of early action is beneficial when weighing out multiple schools. If your decision comes in earlier, you have more time to make your final decision.

Thirdly, it forces you to get on top of your application packet early and hopefully have it all submitted before winter break. This gives you more time to rest over the break and enjoy typical senior year activities as you await the results.

Fourthly, students who are admitted to a school have more time to meet with college staff and current students to ask questions and before making an informed decision.

Finally, students who are denied in early action are still allowed to reapply in the spring admissions cycle. This gives the school time to review the student’s application and make any changes.

As UC’s December 1st Early Action Application deadline approaches, I hope that you are all busily working on your applications. I highly encourage you to apply before this deadline and do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
