In the Center of ‘Pill Hill’

The university is surrounded by different types of hospitals; children’s hospitals, UC affiliated hospitals, and even religiously affiliated hospitals too.

When I toured the campus in July 2018, I had not even thought of applying to the university; it just seemed too big for my taste. Along the tour, it was mentioned by a junior that for majors on a pre-med track, the location of campus is perfect. She said that we are right amongst the majority of hospitals in Cincinnati, including one of the top children’s hospitals in the world. The University is located in Pill Hill; a cluster of medical institutions and employment centers; for students, this means more opportunities for research, volunteering, and even care for ourselves. The main hospitals in the area include:

  • Good Samaritan
  • University of Cincinnati Medical Center
  • The Christ Hospital
  • Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
  • Shriner’s Hospital for Children

Other than being a great resource for individuals requiring medical care, these hospitals are the teaching grounds for UC’s nursing school and medical school . What is unique about the University of Cincinnati is its proximity to all of these locations and resources; a great way to get to Pill Hill is the CCM shuttle route.

For students wanting to volunteer at any of the hospitals, it is not difficult to apply and make the commitment every week.

Having so many options in arm’s reach motivates me to do more; and I hope it encourages you too!

Let me know if you have any questions at all!
