University of Cincinnati’s Community

The university of Cincinnati has a unique environment and a diverse community, in terms of age, gender, race, ethnicity and different other identities. I have met so many great people with whom I became friends with and that have made my life more joyful at UC. Like everywhere else, you will find good and bad encounters, but don’t let that hold you back from extending your friendship to new people. The first thing I learned when I started in college, is networking is important. It’s true, networking will help you a lot, not only with your personal life, but also in your career.

No matter how you feel about your English, don’t be afraid to express yourself. Your identity is unique and different but it doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing; it actually is a great thing and will make you an outstanding, amazing person. My American friends have always made fun of me flipping words or putting them in funny a order. So, I always respond with either, “If it makes you laugh, why are you complaining?” or “I speak more than one language, so jokes on you.” I hope you make better friends than mine.

One advice I can offer you is try to be involved outside of class. There are plenty of student organizations and if you still can’t find one that strikes your interest you can start your own.  This helped me a lot, it made my resume outstanding, and it created opportunities that I wouldn’t have been able to achieve if I hadn’t been involved on campus. It allowed me to meet amazing people in which some become long life friends.

To sum it up, UC has a very big, diverse community, and as part of this community you should definitely take advantage of it and have fun!!!
